MAGMA Advisory Council to Explore Michigan’s Maritime Future at September Meeting

The Michigan Alliance for Greater Mobility Advancement (MAGMA) will convene leaders from industry, workforce development, education, and economic development for its upcoming Advisory Council Meeting on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Macomb Community College in Warren, Michigan.

This in-person gathering will spotlight Michigan’s maritime industry, with a focus on shipbuilding, emerging opportunities within the sector, and the industry's growing impact on mobility innovation, workforce development, and economic growth across the state. 

Attendees will hear from a distinguished panel of experts representing higher education and state leadership, including:

  • Christopher A. Reilly, Director of Workforce & Continuing Education, Engineering and Advanced Technology, Macomb Community College
  • Thomas McKenney, University of Michigan engineer and one of the architects of the Great Lakes Maritime Strategy
  • Rey Guzman & Amy Kraatz, Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO)

Together, the panel will discuss Michigan's evolving maritime workforce strategy, the future of shipbuilding, and the partnerships needed to prepare talent for careers supporting national defense, advanced manufacturing, logistics, and the broader mobility industry.

Looking Ahead: 2027 Advisory Council Registration

Beginning in 2027, participation in the MAGMA Advisory Council will transition to a paid annual registration model to support ongoing programming and engagement.

The annual registration fee will be $100 per person (equivalent to $25 per meeting) and will include:

Access to all four MAGMA Advisory Council meetings held throughout the calendar year
Live participation in each session via Microsoft Teams or in-person events
A streamlined, one-time registration covering the full year (no need to register for individual meetings)

Additional Details:

Registration will be effective upon payment and valid for the current calendar year only
Registration is non-refundable and non-transferable
No prorated rates or mid-year discounts will be offered
